The ECCO Biom G3 Gore-Tex Golf Shoe is a genuinely waterproof golfing shoe that gets extra points for style and strong design. This shoe is simple and elegant, coming in subdued colors and with a classic shape.

The ZARMA-TOUR spikes coupled with the ECCO’s hybrid elements give you exceptional grip on the course, helping you drive with power.

They have not squandered the comfort of the ECCO, though. They are exceptionally soft inside the shoe itself because of their use of YAK leather for their in-soles.

You are going to pay dearly for these stylish golfing shoes, and they come in as one of the most expensive shoes on the market today.

They also come standard with a TPU heel for extra stability and a foam midsole for added comfort on those long days on the course.

What Should You be Looking for in a Golf Shoe?

A good pair of Golfing Shoes can mean the difference between a great day out and a truly horrible game of golf.

You want a shoe that will support your foot, keep you dry and comfortable for an entire 18-hole day. This is no short order.

Taking time to understand what you are looking for in a golf shoe is your best at avoiding disappointment, or worse, blisters.

There are far more Golf Shoes out there than we have time to pick apart! So, we’ve decided to take a look at what makes a Golf Shoe great!

The Material of the Shoe:

Traditionally all shoes, not only Golfing Shoes, were made of Leather.

Leather is a tried and tested material for making shoes that our grandfathers could vouch for. But, leather needs to be treated periodically to maintain its water-resistant qualities.

Enter in Synthetic fibers.

Synthetic fibers are fantastic, and they’re more breathable than leather, can be made in various vibrant colors, and are safe for vegans to wear. But synthetic fiber, like leather, will need to be treated every so often to keep them water-resistant.

We say that leather and synthetic fibers are water-resistant because they are just that, resistant to water.

However, if it’s heavy downpours or major puddles you’re hoping to save your feet from while golfing, these will not cut it.

Gore-Tex is the only material that can be considered truly waterproof. Gore-Tex is a patented material made with a double layer of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene.

This double layer makes Gore-Tex exceptionally durable and completely water-proof but will make for a heavier and warmer golf shoe than the other materials will.

Picking between these three will be a toss-up between the following factors:

  • Warmth
  • Comfort
  • Durability
  • Style

The Design of the Shoe:

Style is one thing, but a properly designed and executed Golfing Shoe is entirely different!

When you buy your pair of Golfing Shoes, be on the lookout for a few things.

Firstly, look at the seams. Waterproof seams will have some kind of taping over them to repel water. If your shoe has a double seam, that’s even better!

Secondly, notice how flexible the soles of the shoes are. A more flexible sole will be more comfortable, but that comfort is a trade-off for support. If you enjoy playing long games, walking between holes, or have issues with your feet or knees, you should not underestimate sole support.

Thirdly, look at how the soles themselves are connected to the shoes’ uppers. You will want to see a good seam holding these two parts of your Golfing Shoe together, with no fraying or lose edges.

Spiked or Spikeless:

Spiked shoes give you fantastic traction on the course. However, be careful about the material the spikes are made of. Plastic spikes are far more popular than metal ones are in modern golfing, although many golf courses are banning both.

You can buy golf shoes with removable spikes, which makes up for banning f spikes at some golf courses.

Spikeless golf shoes offer far less traction than their spiked counterparts but are generally much more comfortable to wear.

Spikeless shoes are also multifunctional. You can wear them straight from the course to the pub! And what’s more, technological advances in the molds of the soles mean that some spikeless shoes actually offer a high amount of traction.

Driving it home:

Buying a good pair of golf shoes is one thing, but buying the best pair of golf shoes for you is another undertaking completely!

Do your research, try on as many shoes as you can, and be picky about the style and brands you choose.

Chances are, you will not need completely water-proof shoes for the majority of your golfing games. But, comfort and warmth are vital to a good performance.

Happy golfing!
